In most places, especially hotels and attractions, dollars are accepted. In supermarkets and other stores, dollars are accepted but change is given in colones. It is important to pay attention to the exchange rate they use, as it is sometimes lower than the official rate.
You can withdraw dollars or colones at most banks and ATMs. Some credit cards may not work at all banks, so if you encounter a problem, it is recommended to try another bank. Typically, the withdrawal fee ranges from 5 to 8 dollars. At BCR Bank, there is no withdrawal fee, but not all cards can withdraw from it.
